Kowality’s Koala Facts
- Did you know that Americans spend at least $4 billion each year on bottled water? At a cost of about a dollar per bottle, it amounts to 4 billion bottles being discarded. That’s a lot of plastic. A reverse osmosis system produces bottled water quality hydration in the comfort of your kitchen without as great of a cost to the environment. (read more)
- Are you familiar with the Garbage Patches that pollute our oceans? There are five floating plastic islands that threaten to eradicate much of the marine life resulting from more than six decades of waste dumping into the ocean, mostly from land and sea traffic. You can help this by reducing your consumption of plastic – make clean and safe drinking water with an RO system instead of buying bottled water. (read more)
- Are you aware that bathing in soft water is better for your skin than hard water? With hard water, calcium and magnesium can mix poorly with soap to cause buildup which clogs pores and leaves a film on the skin. Washing your skin with soft water will clear up acne and prevent rashes and eczema. In addition, using a water softener will preserve water-consuming appliances and plumbing pipes and help reduce monthly energy costs. (read more)
- Do you know that you can spend less time waiting for your hot water to reach your tap, conserve thousands of gallons of water per year, and cut costs on your bills with a hot water circulation pump? (read more)
- Do you know that chlorine is considered one of the most dangerous contaminants in our drinking water? It has many detrimental effects, such as allergic reactions or increased risk of asthma attacks. Showering in chlorinated water can cause nasal and throat irritations, sneezing or a mild cough. It can also cause skin irritations. A whole house filter system removes many dangerous substances known to cause a variety of illnesses. (read more)
- Do you know that that 37% of U.S. homeowners have suffered water damage and that water damage is the 2nd most common claim after wind/hail? Installing Phyn Plus, an intelligent water monitor and automatic shutoff, protects homes from leaks, saves money and conserves water. (read more)
- Are you aware that accessible modern plumbing effectively removed the breeding grounds for illnesses like polio, cholera and typhoid? Vaccines get all the glory, but most plumbers will tell you that it was water infrastructure – sewage systems and clean water – that eradicated disease.
The Story Behind The Kowality Koala
In late 2019, a serious of uncontrolled fires raged in Australia and thousands of Koalas perished as their native habitat was destroyed. An artist in her own right, the owners’ daughter drew this watercolor as a way to bring attention to the plight of the Koalas endangered population.
The company, Kowality Plumbing, adopted the koala as its company mascot. A small, local and family owned company, Kowality is dedicated to providing quality water treatment systems specifically serving East Valley residents.

Three Generations of Plumbers
In 1971 the first generation of Kowality Plumbing began a legacy of plumbing craftsmanship. Jerry Kowalczyk Sr. (Steve Jr’s grandfather) founded Aquarena Gas in Mesa, Arizona along with his two sons; Steve Sr. and Jerry Jr.
Aquarena provided plumbing and gas services throughout the Valley.
Having learned his skills in the days of coal fired furnaces and pipe joining methods such as lead and okum, Jerry Sr. instilled core values and quality workmanship that continues through Kowality Plumbing today. Our mission is to deliver value to our customers by providing high quality service, with integrity, in a professional manner, at a fair price.
Steve Kowalczyk Jr., owner of Kowality Plumbing, literally grew up in the family business learning everything about the plumbing industry from his grandfather and father. In the early days, this family company focused primarily on gas line installations and repairs and evolved into an integrity-based full service commercial and residential plumbing company.
Steve fondly recalls one of the last “family” projects he worked on with both his dad and grandfather prior to their passing was building the new Show Low High School from the ground up in early 2000, along with his uncles and cousins.
